PHASE 1A - Waste Management Facility at Longue Hougue

With landfill at Mont Cuet fast approaching capacity (2011) and the continuing degradation of our marine environment through the pumping of waste into the sea, the vital waste management proposals will use a public private partnership to deliver:

  • A future-proof centre of excellence for waste management and recycling.

  • A waste water treatment works based on proven, low-risk technology.

  • An energy from waste plant using proven Twin Fluid Bed Technology that will process sewage and municipal solid waste.

  • A recycling park for plastics, glass and biomass.

  • The option to grow the site by 24 acres to the south – the Vivian Reclamation – for light commercial industrial use and/ or residential use for affordable and key worker housing.

  • 3-year project that can be delivered at a lower cost than the previous waste to energy proposals approved by the States of Guernsey.

  • £10m cross subsidy from adjoining Belle Greve Bay development, to lower the cost to the public.
